I realize that I am late to the “party” when it comes to cutting the cord, especially when compared to early adopters, but here are a few reasons for my delayed decision:
- my wife likes to random channel surf and i don’t know whether any OTT set-top boxes give one that kind of an experience
- i like to watch sports — mostly randomly and depending on the mood, and not necessarily specific seasons or playoffs. over the top subscriptions are generally for a whole season, and therefore not worth the $ (especially if i have to subscribe to a number of them)
- i really like to watch CNN and CNBC
Having said that, I already have Apple TV, Samsung Internet TV (which includes apps such as VUDU), and Sony BRAVIA — and therefore access to several OTT channels. However, I typically only watch Netflix and VUDU, and sometimes Amazon VOD.
I am more inclined to get Roku, primarily because of its large collection of channels and low cost. The other option that I might consider is Boxee Box, but that’d be going after the cool factor than utility (do u agree?).
Help me pick one, or suggest something else?
